Literacy Bags for Kindergarten - Letter H - Hermit Crab

Reading:

I am sure you have noticed by now, I am a BIG fan of the Let's Read and Find Out series.  I think these are great for grades k-3.  They allow science to be a fun time of discovery and reading without being dry.  Science is FUN!

Poetry:
Poem link here
This is a cute little poem to go along with A House for Hermit Crab.  It has another pattern you can use to make your crab as well as a poem.

Science:
For science, we will be looking at shells and talking about what could live in a shell.  Here is a great blog that shows what someone else did for "shell observation."  There is also a sheet that you print for ocean observation.

Math: - Counting to 25
At this point we will be counting by 5's and also counting by 1's up to 25.  At least that is my plan. I am always ready to be flexible to whatever he needs and where he is.
Here is a fun hands on way to show counting to 25, and then lining up the cars by 5's to count by 5's.
This is parking lot math

Art:
We will be painting the crab and then decorating the shell.  This is also a great time to reinforce sequencing and retelling the story about what happened and the order in which it happened.

Sight Words:
If it is rainy or cold outside, just write the words on a big piece of paper and tape them down.  We will have each word we are working on on a 3x5 card.  He can toss the bean bag and then he has to find the word card that matches the word he tossed the bean bag to.  He will then match and say it.
